St. Charles Emergency Management Team Advisory

WHO:    The City of St. Charles and Mayor York’s office in conjunction with the St. Charles Emergency Management team issued the following flood advisory outlining flood restoration efforts on the north side of town.  In order to provide up-to-date information, the city has established a hotline number.  For more information, residents and business owners are encouraged to contact the city’s Public Works department as follows:  636-255-6153.

WHAT:      Due to Saturday’s crest and subsequent water recession on the Mississippi, city officials made the decision today to “stand down” its Emergency Management Team headquarters temporarily located in Fountain Lakes Commerce Center.  Officials indicated their process and focus will now revert from flood level watch and monitoring, to rehab and restorative efforts on behalf of area residents and business owners impacted by flooding episodes on the north side of town.  Road closures at Elm Point Road and Huster Road will continue to be monitored.

ALSO:    According to the FEMA website ( HYPERLINK "http://www.fema.gov" www.fema.gov), the following precautions should be taken as flood waters continue to recede:
Avoid floodwaters; water may be contaminated by oil, gasoline, or raw sewage.  Water may also be electrically charged from underground or downed power lines.
Avoid moving water.
Be aware of areas where floodwaters have receded.  Roads may have weakened and could collapse under the weight of a car.
