Recycling in St. Charles

In conjunction with the new Allied Waste Services contract, St. Charles City residents will have easy access to single stream recycle effective January 1, 2009.  Single Stream Recycling in St. Charles means that residents will be able to recycle the following list of recyclable materials:

. Aluminum Cans, Trays and Foil
. Milk and Juice Cartons
. Steel Cans and Tins (including aerosol cans)
. Glass Bottles and Jars (clear, brown and green; no window glass, dinnerware or ceramics)
. Plastic Containers – plastics have an identifying code on the bottom of each container.  Please refer to the website for additional details related to Code #1, Code #2, Code #3, Code #5 PP and Plastic Buckets.

NOTE:  All containers need to be emptied and rinsed clean.  Program does not accept motor oil, insecticide, herbicide or hazardous chemical containers.  All plastic bags should be returned to the appropriate grocery or department store.

Guidelines for recycling Residential Paper Fiber will be as follows:
. Newspaper, including inserts (remove plastic sleeves)
. Cardboard (no waxed cardboard)
. Brown paper Bags
. Magazines, Catalogs and Telephone Books
. Office, Computer Paper, Notebook and Gift Wrap Paper (no metal clips, spirals or binders)
. Cereal, Cake and Food Mix Boxes, Gift Boxes, etc.
. Soda and Beer Can Carrying Cases
. Mail, Junk Mail and Envelopes (no plastic cards, stick on labels or unused stamps)
. Paper Back Books (no hard cover books)
