St. Charles Officials Take Proactive Stance Regarding Swine Flu Outbreak
Wednesday, May 13, 2009
WHO: Mayor Patti York is working in tandem with Michael Spurgeon, Director of Administration and Fire Chief Ernie Rhodes to ensure the Department of Emergency Management for the City of St. Charles responds proactively to recent announcements regarding a swine flu outbreak in Mexico.
WHAT: “Here in St. Charles,” said Mayor York, “we’re watching and monitoring this situation closely. We want to ensure our citizens that the city has an emergency preparedness plan in place, and will follow the guidance and recommendations of the St. Charles County Department of Community Health to the letter,” she said.
The Mayor went on to add that it is important for the region to work together collaboratively to ensure area officials plan accordingly. “It’s similar to what we did last year to prepare for rising flood waters. Taking a proactive approach gives us the ability to stay on top of the situation and react as appropriate,” she added.
