Public Forum Scheduled on Dwelling Bill
Monday, June 07, 2010

The St. Charles City Council is currently considering a bill (Council Bill No. 10186) that would establish minimum dwelling sizes for homes in partially completed residential developments in the city.  The intent of the bill is to prevent significantly smaller homes from being built in subdivisions that are partially completed, thereby insuring similar home sizes within a development.  In order to receive input from residents before voting on this bill, the City Council is sponsoring a public forum on Bill 10186.  The purpose of the forum is to explain the bill and receive comments from the public.  Representatives of the Home Builders Association (HBA) and home builders who are currently developing subdivisions in the City of St. Charles are expected to attend.  The forum will be conducted in two sessions.  The first segment will be a general session for all attendees during which city staff will explain the bill and answer questions regarding how it will be implemented and how it will impact different developments in the city.  That session will be followed by smaller meetings in which attendees will have an opportunity to visit one-on-one with the homebuilder who is constructing homes in their subdivision.  These individual meetings will allow residents to receive information regarding the homes being offered in their subdivision and the builders’ future plans.  Copies of Bill 10186 will be available, as will comment cards that residents may complete and leave with city staff.

The public forum on Council Bill 10186 will be held on Monday, June 14, 2010 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the St. Charles Police Department headquarters at 1781 Zumbehl Road.  No reservation is required.  All residents with questions about this important bill or who wish to offer an opinion on the bill to their elected representatives are urged to attend.  Residents seeking more information may call the Department of Community Development at (636) 949-3222.
