Lewis & Clark Heritage Days in St. Charles

WHO: Authentic reenactment of the Lewis & Clark encampment in 1804 prior to the Corps of Discovery embarking on the exploration of the Louisiana Purchase. The 2010 event commemorates the 206th anniversary of the Lewis & Clark Rendezvous.
WHAT: The annual event will feature period music (including multiple Drum and Fife Corps), story-telling, children’s games, crafts and foods of 1804, camp demonstrations, and the replica keelboat and pirogues.
New to the 2010 line up of activities will be a Fire Starting Competition on Saturday afternoon and a Candlelight Camp Tour on Saturday night. For more information, review the entire event schedule on-line at www.lewisandclarkheritagedays.com.
WHERE & Historic Saint Charles – Frontier Park (along the Missouri riverfront)
WHEN: Saturday, May 15 – 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 16 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
ALSO: While you’re in the historic district on Saturday, May 15, be sure to visit the First Missouri State Capitol, 200-216 South Main Street for the annual Historical Children’s Festival. Stop by the old capitol grounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to experience what it was like to be a child during the 1820s. Hear interesting stories on Missouri’s struggle for statehood. Learn about life in St. Charles when our first legislators were meeting right here in town. Hands-on activities will include: butter churning, quill pen writing, cow milking, candle dipping, baby farm animals, hearth cooking, period games, re-enactors, sewing/quilting and much more!
