WHO:   The Saint Charles Landmarks Board will sponsor an informational meeting for residents and property owners in the Central Business and Central Residential Districts, as well as any other parties interested in learning more about an historic study of St. Charles.  Anyone who has information about the history of St. Charles or about properties located in the survey area is encouraged to attend the meeting, which will provide an opportunity to learn more about historic preservation and its many benefits, including the ability to utilize the Missouri Historic Tax Credit Program.

The meeting will be conducted by preservation consultant, Karen Bode Baxter, who has undertaken similar surveys in such communities as Hannibal, Pasadena Hills and Kirkwood.  She and her associates Ruth Keenoy and Timothy Maloney have already begun research into the history of St. Charles, and they invite the community to participate and get actively involved as volunteers on the project.

WHAT:   The City has been awarded a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the National Park Service to complete an architectural/historical survey of the area shown on the accompanying map.  The purpose of the survey is to document relatively intact properties over 50 years old and to identify those that are eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, either individually or as part of a historic district.  (Side note:  Listings in the National Register do not impose restrictions on property owners; any related restrictions imposed are a result of local law, not National Register designation.)

WHERE &   St. Charles City Hall  --  (200 North Second St., City Council Chambers, 4th Fl.)
WHEN:       Monday, July 19 at 7:15 p.m.
