St. Charles Initiates $18M Expansion at Missouri Wastewater Treatment Facility
Wednesday, October 27, 2010

WHO:   St. Charles area residents and business owners are invited to attend a ground-breaking ceremony to dedicate the expansion of the Missouri Wastewater Treatment Facility.  This major expansion effort will begin in November 2010 in an effort to meet the ever-growing needs of St. Charles area residential and commercial users.  The project, which will ensure a more efficient and safer plant operation, is anticipated to be completed by May 2012, weather permitting.

WHAT:   According to 20-year population projections, the existing plant’s hydraulic capacity will be insufficient to handle sewage produced from industrial and residential areas.  The expansion will enable the plant to increase daily flow capacity by 51 percent.  The enhanced treatment process will be more energy efficient, and the installation of a new ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system will eliminate the discharge of unwanted chlorine by-products.
