St. Charles Regroups on Community Center Project
Sunday, May 09, 2010
ShowMe Aquatics & Fitness and the City of St. Charles have signed a separation agreement dissolving their collaboration to build the St. Charles Community Freedom Center. The decision was based on the fact that in today’s economic times, ShowMe Aquatics found it difficult to raise the necessary capital to go forward with this worthwhile project.
The City will now turn its attention to a newly formed Task Force consisting of Mayor York and all members of the St. Charles City Council. The task force held its first meeting this past Tuesday night and is chaired by Council President Mike Klinghammer. “We are excited about the prospect of building a new community center, but need to ensure that it’s affordable for our residents in the long run,” stated Councilman Klinghamamer.
At its first meeting, the task force decided to create three subcommittees which include:
Affiliations and Locations
Facility and Design Content
Project Financing
Each of the three subcommittees will be headed up by a Council member.
Mayor Patti York added, “We need to be cognizant of the fact that 70 percent of our voters supported the ballot measure to build a community center. We take that very seriously, and want to make sure we provide what our residents truly want in a community center. I’m looking forward to working with all the Council members to continue exploring every option available in moving forward with this project for the City of St. Charles,” she said.
