In the days of yesteryear, Saint Charles was known for a number of firsts. We are attributed as being the origination point of our nation's highway system with the establishment of Highway 40 and Interstate 70. The city's top honors haven't stopped with the past. Recently, AAA-Midwest Motorist Magazine featured St. Charles in their annual “Best of the Midwest” readership poll. Our own Historic Main Street was named the ‘best antique district in the Midwest.’ During 2008, Saint Charles was recognized in Money Magazine as a Top 100 Best Places to Live, and since that time we've received a number of additional accolades including Top 25 Best Places for Affordable Homes (CNNMoney.com), Best Places to Retire (U.S. News & World Report) and the second runner up in Missouri for Best Places to Raise Your Kids (BusinessWeek). Finally, recent US consensus numbers revealed the City has grown over 9% in the last year bringing our population of nearly 66,000.
We are continually updating our website to better serve our residents. The City recently received the distinction of having one of the Top City Government Websites (juggle.com). Maintaining and refreshing our site underscores the commitment of Mayor Faith, the City Council and Administration have to keep all of our citizens and visitors well informed of the events and activities that occur in City Hall and throughout our community. As you peruse our site, you will see we provide the public with a wealth of information on a broad range of public services, programs, issues, and public policies. We hope you find our site helpful in learning more about our great City and all that we have to offer.
Likewise, the City’s Council and Administration are committed to maintaining a high state of transparency with the decisions that we make each and every day. We take every opportunity to help educate the public and do so by a number of different means. For example, we publish a quarterly newsletter. The City video-streams public meetings on our website and have added our local viewing channel to AT&T’s U-Verse System to go a long with Charter Communications. Likewise, our local cable channel has a complete line-up of informational programs on city-related services. These are just a few of the many ways we help meet this commitment.
The primary role of the City’s Director of Administration is to assist the Mayor with leadership, guidance, and support in the delivery of effective and efficient local government services. More specifically, my focus continues to be improving our day-to-day operations. It is my firm belief that whether it’s maintaining our parks system, patrolling our streets or assisting customers in finding information on codes, each employee is committed to carry on our overall mission of outstanding service to St. Charles.
As noted by the recent distinctions, The City of St. Charles is a great community and a special place to live, work and to raise a family. Again, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our City. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or need assistance from the Administration or any of the City’s Department, please do not hesitate to contact me either at (636) 949-3262 or by email using our Contact Us form on the website.
