The City Clerk works directly for the City Council and is responsible for:
- Preparing agendas for Council meetings
- Maintaining official minutes of all Council proceedings
In addition, the City Clerk's office:
- Registers voters
- Is the legal custodian of the City's permanent records including resolutions and contracts
- Supervises the retention of permanent records
- Supervises the disposal of non-permanent records
- Is the custodian of the official City Seal and the Code of Ordinances
- Files official notices for advertisement
- Certifies official documents
- Prepares documents for candidate filing for City elections
- Receives referendum, recall, and initiative petitions from citizens
- Administers Oath of Office for public officials
