  • Plan your trip – before you even begin driving.
  • Stay alert and make safety your first priority.
  • Expect the unexpected  – Pay close attention to those around.
  • Watch your speed  – Obey speed limits.
  • Obey all work-zone signs.
  • Drive courteously – Merge early and don’t tailgate.
  • Minimize distractions – Turn the radio down and don’t use your mobile phone.
  • Use seatbelts and child safety seats – In Missouri, it’s the law.
  • Be patient

  •     West Clay and First Capitol Intersection

Contractor:  L. Krupp Construction, Inc.

Calendar Days in Contract:  305 Days

Notice to Proceed Date:  June 8, 2009

Estimated Completion Date:  April 2010

Project Description: The project at the intersection of West Clay and First Capitol includes the realignment of West Clay as it approaches First Capitol, the widening of First Capitol to provide dual (two) left turn lanes from north-east bound First Capitol to West Clay, storm sewers, sidewalks, streetlights, medians on Highway 94, and other improvements. West Clay will also be widened to allow for two through lanes for a future extension of the West Clay (also known as Fairgrounds Extension).

                            
Traffic Control:  Two-way traffic will be maintained for the duration of the project. The project will be completed in several phases. Drivers can expect to have the road reduced to one lane in several locations at various times during the project. Please watch for signs directing traffic. 
 
Ongoing Work: Construction of pavement on the new alignment for West Clay is ongoing. Storm sewer work and widening on the west side of First Capitol are ongoing.  Site work includes retaining walls, grading, and erosion control measures. 

Major Work Completed to Date: All Ameren relocations completed; Charter and AT&T relocations completed. Cleared and grubbed trees and shrubbery. Temporary pavement installed on West Clay to permit traffic control for Phase II. Old traffic signals wrecked out and temporary signals erected and functioning. Street lighting was removed as required for construction. Medians have been removed on First Capitol and concrete base widening installed in place. The east side of First Capitol widening has been completed along with sidewalks and new drive aprons.

  •            Highway 94 and Zumbehl/Friedens Road

Update:  January 28, 2010

Contractor:  N.B. West Contracting, Inc.

Calendar Days in Contract:  150 Days

Notice to Proceed Date:  February 1, 2010

Estimated Completion Date:  July 2010

Project Description: The project at the intersection of Highway 94 and Zumbehl Road includes the installation of an exclusive right turn lane from southbound Zumbehl Road to Highway 94 along with widening Friedens Road to 5 lanes from Highway 94 to Scherer Parkway.

                            
Traffic Control:  Two-way traffic will be maintained for the duration of the project. The project will be completed in several phases. Drivers can expect to have lane closures in several locations at various times during the project. Please watch for signs directing traffic. These closures are anticipated to begin occurring in the spring of 2010.

Major Work Completed to Date: This project is scheduled to begin in February of 2010.

  •           I-70 and Fifth Street Corridor Improvements

Update:  January 28, 2010

Notice to Proceed Date:  January 4, 2010

Estimated Completion Date:  August 2010

Project Description: The project on Fifth Street between I-70 and Ameristar Boulevard includes the addition of a lane on northbound Fifth Street, new brick paver medians, ramp improvements, new signals, storm sewers and lane reconfiguration in this corridor. 

                        
Traffic Control:  Two-way traffic will be maintained for the duration of the project. The project will be completed in several phases. Drivers can expect to have the lane closures in several locations at various times during the project. Please watch for signs directing traffic. These closures are anticipated to begin occurring in the February of 2010.

Ongoing Work: This project is scheduled to begin in February of 2010.

 

Major Work Completed to Date: This project is scheduled to begin in February of 2010. Ameren UE, Charter and AT&T have completed the relocation of their lines.

Project Description: The project on Fifth Street between Jefferson Street and First Capitol Drive includes the widening of Fifth Street to 5 lanes and the installation of a left turn lane from southbound Fifth Street to First Capitol Drive. Storm sewers, streetlights, and sidewalks will also be installed as a part of this project.

Traffic Control:  Two-way traffic will be maintained for the duration of the project. The project will be completed in several phases. Drivers can expect to have the road reduced to one lane in several locations at various times during the project. Please watch for signs directing traffic. These closures are anticipated to begin occurring in the March of 2010.

Ongoing Work: This project is scheduled to begin in February of 2010.

Project Description: The project on Fifth Street between First Capitol Drive and Tompkins Street includes the widening of Fifth Street to 5 lanes, sidewalk replacement, a new median and a flashing pedestrian crossing signal at Jackson Street.
