The purpose of the Board of Public Works is to:
- take charge of, and exercise control over, the waterworks, and sewerage systems of the City of St. Charles
- make all necessary rules and regulations for the government of the waterworks and sewerage systems
- control the rates assessed for water produced or sewage treated, subject to City Council approval

The Board of Public Works meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
