I’ve always loved St. Charles. Maybe it’s because I was born and raised in our fine city. In 1947 I started my life at St. Joseph’s Hospital, back when it was a little brick building on Clay Street. I attended grade school at Immanuel Lutheran, then on to high school at St. Charles High. Served with the Air National Guard. Earned an associate’s degree from Ranken Technical in 1968.

Most of my work experiences have centered around St. Charles, too. For years I installed electronics for National Cash Register while also working as the St. Charles County sheriffs “reserve,” helping out when the police needed extra help for the county fair, the jail, or the streets. In 1973 I took a full-time position with the sheriffs department and later became a detective.

My political career began in 1984, when I successfully ran for state representative and spent four years (two terms) in Jeff City. As a member of the Missouri legislature, I served on the Civil and Criminal Justice committee because of my background in law enforcement. I was also involved with committees for Traffic, State Institutions and Properties, Municipal Corporations, and Tourism. All of my work at the capital prepared me for a future career in city government.

I returned to St. Charles in 1988 and worked for the Fire and Ambulance Dispatch Unit, then Interface Security, until I retired in 2006.

When an opportunity to serve St. Charles residents opened, I joined the Festival of the Little Hills committee. And when a good friend suggested I run for City Council, I took on the challenge. I won and now represent the fine people of the 9th Ward.

Part of my mission on the council is to encourage the people who serve our city, and I got my chance right away. As councilman, I’m on the Tourism Committee, vice-chairman of the Streets Committee. I’m also involved with the Seniors Advisory Committee and the Cable TV Commission. I attend the Chamber of Commerce Governmental Relations meetings. I’m involved because I think this job is about what we can do for the city, not what the city can do for us.

Another part of my role is to act as a buffer between city government and the people. To communicate the needs of our residents and to help convey the vision city government has for the growth and well-being of St. Charles in the present and future.

I’ve always had an open door policy. When I was in Jeff City, I always answered everybody who called, wrote, or emailed. I still do that.

I work with great people and I really enjoy being part of the council. Citizens of St. Charles, I’m here for you; let me know how I can help you.
