City of Saint Charles Animal Shelter and Animal Control

The City of Saint Charles is pleased to partner with Five Acres Animal Shelter for the care and adoption of the animals in our shelter.

Beginning August 1, 2020, Five Acres Animal Shelter will be providing the following services:

  • Operating the City of Saint Charles Animal Shelter
  • Coordinating pet adoptions
  • Managing volunteers

The City of Saint Charles Animal Control Department is responsible for:

  • Enforcing pet ordinances
  • Investigating animal abuse/neglect cases
  • Issuing commercial permits for animal-related businesses
  • Managing animal capture and/or impound
  • Performing bite investigations

Emergency Calls

Animal Control personnel will respond to emergency calls (bite cases, aggressive dogs, injured animals, etc.) before or after business hours.

The City of Saint Charles Animal Shelter always has a variety of dogs, cats and sometimes other animals that are available for adoption to anyone, regardless of place of residence. If you are interested in adopting a new pet, visit our shelter at 2835 W. Randolph Street (63301) during the Shelter Hours shown on the right. When you visit, you will have the opportunity to get to know our animals. If you have other pets at home, you may be asked to bring them in to see how the animals interact together.

Once you have selected a new pet, you will complete an adoption application, which will be reviewed by Five Acres Animal Shelter personnel. Five Acres reserves the right to refuse any pet adoptions.

Adoption Fees

Canine Adoption Fees:

Puppies under 1 year of age – $200
Dogs under 25 pounds – $200
Dogs 26 pounds and over – $150
Senior Dogs* – $95
Shadow’s Friends** – $95

Feline Adoption Fees

Kittens under 1 year of age – $120
 Adult Cats – $90

*There is not a specific age that we classify animals as seniors. Some breeds age more quickly than others. The shorter the lifespan for that particular breed, the earlier the age we will classify them as a senior.

**Shadow’s Friends are animals with special needs. These are animals that will need either special care or special medication for the rest of their lives.

All animals are vaccinated (including rabies) and given a deworming treatment prior to being placed up for adoption. With your adoption, you will also receive a voucher for a free (with select veterinarians) or discounted spay or neuter.

Return Policy

There is a 30-day return policy (from the date of adoption) on all animals adopted from the City of Saint Charles Animal Shelter for one or more of the following reasons:

  • Children/adult allergies
  • Compatibility with family members
  • Compatibility with present pets
  • Medical reasons involving animal’s health

All adoption papers must be returned with the animal. There are no cash refunds.
