2020 Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs)
In 2015, the City of St. Charles elected to pursue the Seclusion option concerning an area affected by the decertification of the Boschert Creek Levee (a non-accredited levee system generally located between Boschertown Road and New Town Boulevard within Ward 8). The City selected this option due to the number of properties which would be required to obtain flood insurance based upon the decertification and to work with FEMA to more accurately study this area. The Seclusion option also allowed the City to move forward and adopt the other Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) City wide (in review since 2009 and adopted in 2016).
From March 2017 to present, City Staff from the Departments of Community Development, Engineering and Public Works have worked with FEMA officials to review the area affected by the levee decertification and identify the risk of flooding. After months of review, FEMA issued updated Preliminary FIRMs (link) dated February 13th, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 virus, a public meeting on the subject matter is not possible; however, staff has provide all information for public view on the City’s website, including Frequently Asked Questions, the new Preliminary FIRM maps, Interactive Map, etc. Please utilize these resources to see if your property is affected. If you are unsure the effect on your property or if you have any questions on these revised maps, please feel free to contact John Boyer, Planning Manager at 636-949-3221 or via email at email@example.com.
PLEASE NOTE: Letters to properties within 100 feet of the changed flood boundary have been mailed by the City. Please be aware, receipt of this letter does not guarantee your property will be affected by the map change. The 100 foot buffer from the floodplain was chosen to insure proper public notification of the map changes. Please contact staff for more specific information regarding your property.
