Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps
In 2015, the City of St. Charles elected to pursue the Seclusion option concerning an area affected by the decertification of the Boschert Creek Levee (a non-accredited levee system generally located between Boschertown Road and New Town Boulevard within Ward 8). The City selected this option due to the number of properties which would be required to obtain flood insurance based upon the decertification and to work with FEMA to more accurately study this area. The Seclusion option also allowed the City to move forward and adopt the other Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) City wide (in review since 2009 and adopted in 2016).
PLEASE NOTE: Letters to properties within 100 feet of the changed flood boundary have been mailed by the City. Please be aware, receipt of this letter does not guarantee your property will be affected by the map change. The 100 foot buffer from the floodplain was chosen to insure proper public notification of the map changes. Please contact staff for more specific information regarding your property.
From March 2017 to present, City Staff from the Departments of Community Development, Engineering and Public Works have worked with FEMA officials to review the area affected by the levee decertification and identify the risk of flooding. After months of review, FEMA has issued Preliminary FIRMs on June 29th, 2018 for City review and comment. These FIRMs identified FEMA’s belief to the actual flood risk after de-certification of the Boschert Creek Levee.
